Alice "Pie" Marie Hostetler of Gainesville, Florida, transition Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at age 79.
Alice was a graduate of Lincoln High School Class of 1965. She earned her Associate's degree from Santa Fe Community College. A talented seamstress, Alice owned and operated Alice's Alterations and Tailoring Shop for many years in Atlanta, Georgia. She also served on the Board of Directors at the Southeast Boys & Girls Club in Gainesville, and was a dedicated booster club member of the Lady Wave basketball team at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School for several years. She retired from the School Board of Alachua County. Alice was a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, where she served until her transition. She was a caring and selfless woman, full of love, dignity, and unmistakable sass. Feisty in spirit and firm in her convictions, she said what she meant and meant what she said, leaving no doubt about where she stood and always standing strong and who she was.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Randy Lee Thomas and Lewis Thomas, Sr.; sisters, Annie Mae George, and Dorethia Hall; brothers, Lewis Thomas, Jr., Earl Howard (Leslie), and Calvin Thomas; and her canine companion for many years, Mercedes. Left to cherish her memories are: her loving and dedicated life partner, Damon S. Hostetler; devoted daughter, Tonia D. Potter; and loving sons, Lester S. Palmer, Jr. and Eric C. Hostetler (Laneisha). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Andrea Potter, Talorean Cook (Darrell), Alexis Potter, Tyler Lattimore (Marley), Lester S. Palmer, III, Rayvin Palmer, Zayvion Palmer, Alyana Palmer, L-Shawn Palmer, and Lester E. Palmer; 10 great grandchildren; and siblings, Thelma Johnson, Robert Thomas, Lorenzo Johnson (Debbie), Loretta McCray (LaDaniel, Sr.), Maryann Thomas-Johnson, Alicia Thomas; and a host of godchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
